Jolly Roger Tee

We've used a skull and crossbones a lot over the years. Sometimes it's a cartoony skull. Sometimes it's an anatomical one. And sometimes the bones are wrenches. Every once in a while the skulls have been missing teeth, eyeballs and, in this case, an entire mandible. The presentation changes, but the reason stays the same: rebellion.

To us, the skull and crossbones will forever be a Jolly Roger; a flag raised way up high to let the world know you mean business, a warning shot to caution those around you to tread lightly, a trumpeter to announce that you'll take no shit. It's a simple scribble of lines but it represents an entire way of life. It symbolizes a style; a way of doing things, and a way of being done.

It may be a cliché of childish pirate fiction. It may conjure images of Johnny Depp hamming it up for $35 million a film. Or remind you of that time you read Robert Louis Stevenson in grade school. But that doesn't render its meaning any less significant. At least to us. 'Cause that's the power of a skull and crossbones. It transcends kitsch. It's invincibly cool. It embodies the fundamentally rebellious way in which we choose to navigate the waters of modern life.
