2018 Gentleman's Ride Wrap Up

Hamilton Distinguished Gentlemans Ride 2018 - Ride Dapper

Yes, it was a bit too chilly for a group ride yesterday. And yes, it was too wet. But we did not ride for comfort. And we did not ride for joy. We rode for the 380,914 men who die each year of prostate cancer and the 504,213 men who lose their lives to suicide. We rode to make sure those numbers go down. Not up.

Men are raised to be stoic and unemotional creatures. They are taught to suck it up. They are encouraged to be brooding and rock-like. But men are not rock-like. It's important that all gender-types feel as though they can talk to someone, that they can find help. If you are troubled, speak up. No matter how hard it may be. There are people who are waiting to listen to you. We promise. And if you are not troubled, be ready and willing to listen to someone who is. Don't ignore signs of depression. And men, go to the doctor. Get checked regularly for prostate and other cancers. Seriously.

Thanks to all the 188 riders who braved the weather and joined us yesterday for the 2nd Annual Hamilton Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. You all did an amazing job fundraising over $80,000 for Movember, making Hamilton the highest fundraising city in the entire country.

The Bikeriders: The 1960s photography that inspired the film

The Bikeriders by Jeff Nichols and starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and Norman Reedus, has been entertaining audiences for months now. But many people are surprised to hear that the film was actually inspired by a 1968 photo series by American photographer and filmmaker Danny Lyon.

Natsukashii - a vintage Japanese Kayōkyoku playlist by Steeltown

Definitely our strangest playlist yet. Before Japanese Idols and J-Pop there was Kayōkyoku. A genre of music influenced heavily by western rock and roll and usually had easy to follow melodies, sentimental narratives and straight forward lyrics designed to be relatable to the everyday Japanese person.
